Pressure Conversion Notes
If your units cancel correctly, your number is usually correct.
- Write the given with units (example:
0.75 atm). - Choose a conversion factor from the standards below.
- Flip the factor so the unit you want to cancel is in the denominator.
- Multiply straight across (numbers on top ÷ numbers on bottom).
- Check units: the canceled unit should appear once on top and once on bottom.
- Round reasonably (your quiz accepts close answers).
1 atm = 101,325 Pa = 101.325 kPa = 14.7 psi = 760 mm Hg = 760 torrShortcut idea: If you get stuck, convert to atm first, then convert from atm to the target unit.
Quick Examples
The atm cancels → answer is in Pa. ≈ 8.61 × 10⁴ Pa
Notice this is basically “divide by 1000” because 101,325 Pa matches 101.325 kPa. 75.0 kPa
≈ 0.842 atm
psi cancels, atm cancels → answer ends in torr. ≈ 9.31 × 10² torr
≈ 712 mm Hg
- Did you include units on every line of work?
- Did the unwanted unit cancel (same unit top and bottom)?
- Does your answer unit match what the question asked for?
- Is your answer size reasonable? (ex: 1 atm is ~101 kPa and 760 mm Hg)

Directions: Solve all 12 problems in your Science Notebook (or separate paper). Show factor-label work with units canceling for credit. Then complete the quiz and take a screenshot of your final score screen. Input rule: Enter numbers only (no units). Answers are graded with a small tolerance, so reasonable rounding is okay.
