New Lab Report Requirements

Along with attaching your completed data, calculation, and questions to your lab handout, you must also submit a reflective analysis/conclusion of your lab experiment. This portion of your lab report should be in an essay format.

Your report should include the following:
  • Your name, lab partners name, date the lab was completed, and period should be in the top right corner.
  • Title of the lab and experiment number should be centered and in bold.
  • You should start off by re-stating the purpose of the lab experiment.
  • You may include some background information about the lab, chemical reactions involved, formulas used, important concepts, theories or laws being examined.
  • You will need to include error analysis and describe any possible error that could have affected your lab results, describing both the cause and effect for each error. Buzz words like possibly, increase, decrease, higher, lower, changed, affected, due to, systematic, are often expressed here.
  • You should also include any predictions or hypothesis you discovered throughout the experiment.
  • You must include relevant/specific data and calculations from your experiment.
  • You must explain what your data, calculations and results mean.
  • You must include a detailed conclusion of your experiment summarizing how you accomplished the purpose of the lab, and should state everything you learned from it.
  • Your report will need to consist of a minimum of 1 full page of original writing, be in 12 pt. font, and utilize your scientific vocabulary.
