MINORITY SCIENTIST
RESEARCH POSTER-PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
Objective: To explore the cultural and gender diversity in the field of chemistry.
Assignment: To create a poster project, PowerPoint, or Google Slides, along with a full typed page report, of a minority scientist who made significant contributions to the field of chemistry. You will need to use the library and other resources to research your scientists both in and outside of school.
Directions: Each person/group is required to complete the following chemistry research project according to all of the expectations outlined below. Come in during lunch prior to Wednesday 2/26/2020 if you have any questions regarding completing this assignment.

RESEARCH POSTER OR POWERPOINT/GOOGLE SLIDES (*Required)
You should have the following information on your Poster:
1. Maximum of two students per project
2. Make it colorful and interesting. Use pictures, objects, drawings, diagrams...etc. anything to appropriately make your poster visually appealing. (include nothing that may deteriorate or decompose)
3. Affix materials to the poster. (If it falls off, it wasn't there.)
4. Try to make it professional looking. Must be visible and legible at distance of 8 feet.
5. Project Size = 18 X 18" no Please use .
6. Be original and creative. These projects are intended to educate and entertain and be displayed for several years.
7. Organize the information in your poster. Use titles, subtitles, bullets and cues (such as arrows or color-coding) to help the reader easily follow the information in your poster. Try to avoid using paragraphs on the poster.
7. Your poster must be free of spelling and grammatical errors. I suggest you type your content.
8. Neatly display your name(s) and class period on bottom-right, front corner of the poster.

- Slide 1: Title, student(s) name, class, period, date, one picture
- Slide 2: Introduction: Purpose statement (what you plan to teach the audience)
- Slides 3-4: Scientific Contributions: What you learned about the Scientist. Describe your scientist’s major scientific contributions. Be sure to translate the science “jargon” into words you and your peers can relate to. Summarized (paraphrased or directly quoted) information about your scientist and their contributions to science must include cited sources. physical properties, why the chemistry of this topic is important to society.
- Slides 5: Relevance – Describe how your scientist’s contributions have impacted your life and society today. Why are your scientist’s contributions important to you and others?
- Slides 6: Climate/Timeline – Describe the challenges facing your scientist due to your scientist’s ethnicity or gender. Did your scientist have any mentors or peers to help him? How did your scientist make his or her voice heard? Why did your scientist choose to do what he or she did?
- Slides 7: Summary: What your audience should walk away knowing from your presentation.
- Slides 8: Work Cited: You must include 3 different credible sources (one must be a printed text).
